High-Wire Heartbreak by Anna Schmidt

High-Wire Heartbreak by Anna Schmidt is a fantastic novel. I need to confess I could NOT put it down. Sorry to those who I ignored so I could continue reading! I am not usually a fan of a dual timeline book but Anna nailed it in how she wrote the story!

Successful author, Chole Whitfield has arrived in Florida to work on her latest novel. However, she also has an ulterior motive of researching her grandmother's adoption and connection to the Ringling Family. Yes, that of circus life.  Travel back in time to the 1930s and you will find Lucinda, who is young and in love and a part of the circus.  Newly married, she is thrilled to finally let others know of her relationship with a social elite.  However, it's not that simple.

Again, I could not put the book down. The author weaves the story together in such a way that enthralls the reader. I was hooked. I highly recommend. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review, which I was happy to do.

3-Minute Devotions to Laugh and Reflect

3-Minute Devotions to Laugh and Reflect by Christopher D Hudson and Stan Campbell is filled with beautiful comics as well as short devotionals. I appreciate that each devotional first features a scripture verse. The comic illustrations alone are worth the book. We all need a little humor in our world today.

Sometimes it’s fun just to sit back and laugh. This book not only has that element but also a short one page devotional to go along with it and make you think (and smile). Laughter and a little bit of spiritual challenge.

The Whole Bible Story by Dr. William H. Marty with Troy Schmidt

The Whole Bible Story by William H. Marty with Troy Schmidt is a beautifully illustrated young reader's edition Bible recap that features an overview of the Bible. Each chapter highlights several books or passages from the Bible and describes who the characters are, the setting, and any interesting or background information contained in the chapters discussed. It gives an overview of what is featured in those passages. At the end of each chapter there is a what’s the point section to highlight the overall message of the passage.

This is a beautiful way for children to learn more about the Bible. I appreciate the added history and timelines as well as background information focusing on the Bible. This is a great resource in addition to a Bible for children who want to learn more about the Bible. Illustrations are wonderful and additional study information is extremely helpful. Adults would even find the information helpful.

A View Most Glourious

The best view comes after the hardest climb.

Wow. A View Most Glorious is a wonderful historical fiction story about Coraline Baxter who longs to have an impact on the world around here. Sadly her mother wishes for her to marry someone she had picked for her.  This crushes Coraline. As a college graduate, her hopes and dreams to impact the world are seemingly dashed. However, her involvement with a local suffragette group spurs her to new heights (pun intended).

This is the second book I have read by Regina Scott. As before, it is an enjoyable romantic story based on history.  Readers will enjoy the spiritual aspect as well as appreciate the history and some of what women have traveled through in the past.

God Is My Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom

God is My Hiding Place, 40 devotions for Refuge and Strength by Corrie Ten Boom is a 40 day devotional with content written by Corrie Ten Boom. Even though Corrie passed away thirty-eight years ago, the content for this devotional was compiled and edited from her writing in The Hiding Place.  Honestly, I was surprised as I was reading the devotional how it flowed as a devotional. I knew Corrie's writing was not written specifically as a devotional however the content was definitely edited the in a way that lended itself very well for such a book.

This devotional is a perfect inspiration for strength and refuge in Christ. Beautiful pictures are included with the contents. Corrie’s writing is filled with wisdom and incredible insight. Undercurrent of Secrets by Rachel Scott McDaniel

Undercurrent of Secrets by Rachel Scott is a dual plot or dual timeline romance novel. Hattie Louis, a 21 year old adopted child, spends her time on a steamboat where her adoptive father is captain. She is an entertainer among other roles. When first mate Jack Marshall suddenly comes on board she is intrigued as well as occupied with trying to figure out what his role is. Fast forward quite a few years and Devyn Asbury is a wedding coordinator and event planner on the aforementioned steamboat. After being jilted by her rude former fiancé, Devyn is not looking for a relationship anytime soon. However her paths cross with Chase Jones and a mysterious photo from the 1920s somehow related to the steamboat. I have to be honest that it is a little difficult to go back-and-forth between the two timelines in Undercurrent of Secrets, however once you further in the story it is a fascinating read. Rachel Scott McDonald’s weaves historical and modern day fiction together in the novel from the Doors to the Past series. I enjoyed Undercurrent of Secrets. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was happy to do. I would recommend the book.

Come Back to Me by Jody Hedlund

Wow. That's about all I can say about Come Back to Me by Jody Hedlund.  I could not put this book down, and it's been quite a while since I have read a book such as this!  First, I did not think I would like the plot. I am not always a fan of a dual timeline, nor what one may consider science fiction. However this book nailed it so to speak!

Marian must help to save her father.  He has been working on research of the life healing properties of water from the Tree of Life.  His main goal is to heal his other
ailing daughter. Marian learns that her dad is suddenly in a coma and flies to be with her estranged father. However, she must decipher his research to figure out exactly why he is mysteriously in a coma. What happens next will take you on a mind wondering voyage.

I found that I throughly enjoyed this totally unbelievable story, which the author made believable. I was engrossed in the story and could not wait to read on. I can't wait to read more of Jody's books!  This story was amazing.

I was given a free copy from the publisher to review, which I was more than happy to do.  I would highly recommend this book!

Help Your Kids Learn & Love the Bible by Danika Cooley

Ever wish you could have a do over? Often as parents we wish we could do something over as we move along in life. I think at those times it's important to pass on that insight to younger parents. I wish I had the book, Help Your Kids Learn & Love the Bible by Danika Cooley when my kids were younger.

Danika (a fellow Moms in Prayer mom) shares such insight and wisdom of how and why to teach your children the Bible. I am still amazed at Danika's point on Biblical literacy that, "It's difficult to profess literacy in a subject when you're read the underlying text only one time. If you have read only passages or sections of a founding text for a subject...well then you can only claim partial knowledge at best." (page 14). This is the perfect argument for teaching our children the Bible. I would suggest that instead of looking for the ideal devotional, you read Danika's book and follow the practical suggestions for reading the Bible!

I am impressed that Danika offers practical application of the "how to". She doesn't just suggest having your kids read that Bible, but rather offers the how to accomplish it.  She shares valuable insight that she has learned along her journey.  Her website is also full of great ideas.

I have found this book to be super insightful and just may consider it a new baby shower gift! All parents need this book to understand the why and follow through on the how for Biblical literacy.  I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was more than happy to do. I highly recommend this book!

Don't Miss Out by Jeannie Cunnion

Don’t Miss Out by Jeannie Cunnion shares Jeannie’s journey of awareness and a deeper look at the Holy Spirit. Jeannie shares the insight and conviction she has received over the years utilizing the Holy Spirit‘s power. This book is a great mix of personal stories as well as spiritual theology.

On pg 51 she shares, “the Holy Spirit gets you” as in understands you. Jeannie also shares on page 64, “He (God) has given us the Holy Spirit to help us along, so let’s stop settling for doing it alone. We need a holy help.” Finally, on page 66, she shares, “Have you ever considered that the Spirit wants to do far more for you than you even want to do for you? It’s true. What He can do is far better, and the outcomes are far bigger, than what we can do on our own!”

This is an excellent resource for those who have been Christians for a long time as well as those who are new Christians. I enjoyed the insight and stories that were shared. It’s an easy read yet contains profound insight relating to the Holy Spirit.

Bridge of Gold by Kimberley Woodhouse

Bridge of Gold by Kimberly Woodhouse is a fascinating read. Set in the 1930s as well as present day, it shares the story of two sets of individuals. It’s the story of the building of the San Francisco bridge as well as the reconstruction. Follow along as present day Kayla meets Steven and works together on an archaeological find of the sunken Lucky Martha, including gold. You will also be transported back in time to find out about the building of the San Francisco bridge and a previous time that the Lucky Martha was found. However the Lucky Martha might not be so lucky.

The story is a dual setting story (dual timeline). It does go back-and-forth between present day and history. You will enjoy the two stories woven together by the author. I found this  an enjoyable read. There were several times when I wasn't sure how the story was going to come together, so it was an enjoyable read! Great for the beach or a winter day!

Growing Slow Bible Study

Growing slow by Jennifer Dukes Lee is a “six week guided journey to unhurrying your heart.”

I have read another book by Jennifer Dukes Lee which was amazing. This Bible study is an excellent resource in our fast paced, always moving world.  Coming off the pandemic where we all slowed down and now returning to life as usual this is a particularly applicable study.  While recommended to have the book that accompanies the study, it is not necessary. I love that there is an access code for the free videos and the leaders guide.

This study is a six week journey however it is not divided into days. Rather there is week one, week two, week three, week four, week five and week six. You can decide to do as much or as little in a day throughout the week as you desire. Or you could do all one week in one sitting.

Each week starts off with a let’s get started question. Then Jennifer Dukes Lee shares a little bit about her background. Then goes into a study time with lots of scripture. You will need a Bible to look up the verses and it is very heavy on using the Scriptures. There are also practical steps for moving forward. Finally prayer and reflection of the end.

Growing Slow would be great to do individually, or as a group. I highly recommend the study. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review, which I was happy to do.

Never Miss by Melissa Koslin

Never Miss by Melissa Koslin is a modern-day fiction thriller that might be personal considering the recent Covid outbreak. However it is a keep you on the edge of your seat modern day fiction. Kandace was raised in a sniper family. We will never truly understand her background, however it is extremely intriguing. She is connected with Lyndon and quickly becomes attached to him, most unlikely for her character. Lyndon is an overwhelmingly intelligent scientist. His methods and thinking are amazing.

Never Miss is an amazing thrilling fiction book. I very much enjoyed the story. It is great to read all of the connections the author makes throughout the story. Readers will definitely be impressed with how the story weaves together.

I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was happy to do. I highly recommend Never Miss by Melissa Koslin.

Love Centered Parenting

Initially I wasn’t too excited to read Love Centered Parenting by Crystal Paine. On the front Crystal writes “the no fail guide to launching your kids”.  Anytime an author says they have no fail advice I am hesitant. However I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed Love Centered Parenting. Crystal relates the story of how one of her children was having an issue at school. She then comes to find out there are many more issues as well as depression. Crystal‘s world is turned upside down. She needs to rethink all of her parenting styles and strategies. Through the book, Crystal shares the healing and shift in her parenting. Crystal says this book is for parents of younger children to elementary age, but I would recommend it for up to high school. This book is all about raising your children to launch them, or release them well. While the strategy is not unique to Crystal she does share some definitive examples and advice.

Crystal has a list of suggested parenting practices we need to encourage for independence in our children. These include being fully responsible for their own homework and projects, email their teachers when they have a question, have difficult conversations with adults and peers, contribute to the household, and plan their own social events.

Crystal ultimately shares that “love centered parenting means you don’t have to carry around the weight of feeling like you’re not doing enough because He is enough.”

I did thoroughly enjoy Love Centered Parenting. I found the book was filled with practical advice. Crystal learned many tough lessons through her parenting and shares her insight with others. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was happy to do.

Breakthrough Bible Study by Barb Roose

The Breakthrough Bible study is a game changer! I highly recommend this Bible study for a small group, women’s group, or any type of study group. Flooded by Nicki Koziarz

Flooded by Nicki Koziarz is an amazing look at Noah’s life. Nicki takes you through doubt, faith, hard decisions, listening to God, and so much more in the book Flooded. I have read Nicki‘s work before, and found Flooded just as good, if not better, than previous work.

Nicki journeys with you through the good, the bad and sometimes the ugly of faith. Nicki shares real stories and takes an in depth look at Noah's life.

Nicki shares on page 60, "You don't have to have the spiritual superpower of making sense of the heard things to do the hard thing." She also shares on page 72, "With Noah, we only see this: God commands, Noah listens."  Time and time again Nicki shares amazing insight from Noah's life.  Flooded is a fantastic book and an amazing read.

I was given a free copy from the publisher and highly recommend Flooded.

Intercession Post Script

And the journey of the prayers continues to be seen.

In April of 2019 I wrote a 3 part story of the power of prayer and intercession.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Although on this side if Heaven we may or may not be able to see the impact of  prayers, in this such tragedy, I did get to see a little of the impact.

1 Corinthians 13:12 (MSG) We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!

You can watch this testimony.

Yes, it's long, but what an Amazing God! What impact those prayers have had. To God be the Glory!

Unknown Threat by Lynn H. Blackburn

Unknown Threat by Lynn H. Blackburn shares the story of US Secret service special agent Luke Powell. Tragedy is running through his department as many of his coworkers have died recently in unusual circumstances. However, FBI Special Agent Faith Malone is investigating the case. The glitch is that the FBI and the Secret Service do not get along. They do not think highly of each other. Who is attacking the Secret Service? Will Faith ever be able to solve the crime? What are her issues with men?

Unknown Threat is a fun, gripping, and captivating story. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The twist and turns that it takes keep you interested and makes it a fantastic read. You need to hang on until the end to find out what is going on. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was happy to do. I highly recommend.

Facing the Dawn by Cynthia Ruchti

Facing the Dawn by Cynthia Ruchti was definitely a unique read!  I can honestly say I have never read a realistic fiction book like this. And I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but it was truly unique.  Mara (which means bitter) is raising her three children on her own since her humanitarian husband is chasing his passion miles aways helping so many others. Is it worth it, to parent her three children on her own? Will Liam ever return home to help with all the undone house projects and the undone family? The events that follow will challenge you and possible wreck you!

If you are looking for a realistic fiction book that may be a little too realistic this is definitely book for you.  If you are looking for a feel good, get lost in a book, it may be for you. This book will challenge your thoughts and feelings!

I am glad I persevered and completed the book. The author does truly write in a unique way. I would encourage you to check this book out. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review.

Clutter Decline by God’s Design

Clutter Decline by God’s Design by Dawnell Yoder is a gift. This book is not your regular “how to declutter your house book”. Rather this book goes to the heart of the issue and supports each issue with scripture. I would describe this as a devotional and a how to declutter book. I’ve read lots of books about decluttering, very few have the practical tips that are shared  by Dawnell.

Dawnell shares, “When we leave no margin in our lives, and we are always rushing here and there, our homes can quickly fall apart at the seams, and we end up in a place of frustration and ineffectiveness.”   She also shares, “The most ironic thing to me about living with an ‘I will get to it later’ approach is that it almost always creates more work.”  I also enjoyed the thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter.

Dawnell addresses issues in Clutter Decline by God’s Design that I have not seen addressed in other decluttering books. This book is surely a gift and a gem. Perfect for yourself or as a gift to others around you. This book also serves as a great encouragement. Applicable to people in all stages of life. I highly recommend.

Clutter Decline by God’s Design is available on Amazon

A Dance in Donegal

A Dance in Donegal by Jennifer Deibel is the tale of Moira, who recently lost her mother. She has also finished her training to be a teacher at the normal school. As per her mothers arrangements before her death she will be heading to Ireland to teach at the local school. Her mother hasn’t shared  much about her upbringing in Ireland, but when Moira arrives in Ireland she soon realizes there is a deep history that her mother has never shared with her. Moira must learn the customs and ways of those in Donegal. Is this really the life for her? Will she ever fit in? What about her students and those around her who are giving her a really difficult time?

A Dance in Donegal is a delightful tale of a young school teacher, a new country and a new life. I did enjoy the story. I would recommend looking at the glossary in the back of the book to help you understand some of the colloquial language that is used.

A Dance in Donegal is an enjoyable story! I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review. I am happy to recommend this book.

The Lady in Residence

The Lady in Residence by Allison Pittman is a thrilling tale within a tale!  Dini works several jobs including the tour guide for a ghost walking tour. Suddenly a young man joins her tour and is intrigued by the tail she is sharing. The text then flashes back to the tale shared on the tour. It is a ghost tour so there is talk of ghosts and spirits. Finally through much interweaving and captivating, a decades old mystery is solved! Be prepared for how it will end!  Not as you expected.

The Lady in Residence is in entertaining book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Readers will not want to put it down as they go from story to story (past to present and back to the past again). I received a complementary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing  and was under no obligation to post a review. However I am happy to recommend this book!

The Beauty of an Uncluttered Soul by Carla Gasser

The Beauty of an Uncluttered Soul by Carla Gasser is a collection of thoughts and ideas on how to unclutter your soul and allow God’s Spirit to transform your heart focusing on the fruit of the Spirit. This is a beautifully illustrated book illustrated by Vivian Kammel. The illustrations are absolutely stunning. Carla takes you through checking your attitudes, checking your actions, and checking your habits. Each chapter walks you through the why behind the transformation, searching the Scriptures, observing, using, leaning and applying with a time to reflect.

This book would make an excellent gift for yourself or others looking to unclutter their hearts and go back to the basics of a simple soul. I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I was happy to do.
