This is Where It Ends by Cindy K. Sproles tells the story of Minerva, who at the age of 14 was married, and her husband, Stately. He moved her to the mountains. She lived on the mountain for 50 years with her husband. At the age of 94, 30 years after continuing to mourn his death, a reporter, Del, shows up at her home. Suddenly, Del is caring for Minerva and helping her. However, Minerva is trying to figure out what Del’s motives are. Does it relate to the box that Minerva’s late husband had given her upon his death? The one he told her to keep as a secret, and not share under any circumstances. What is in the box? Is it gold as many believe? Is it something else? Was Stately, ever truly in love with her? Was there another woman? What are Del’s ultimate motives? What does he know?
This story tells the fascinating tale of life many years ago. I’ll admit the story did take a little while to pickup, however I was fascinated and intrigued to find out exactly what was happening. About halfway through I could not put it down and to tried to solve the mystery of what was in the box. This is a fantastic historical fiction book that I would recommend.
